This is SOOOO me during the summer.
The evening begins with a frantic drive down crowded, rush-hour Wadsworth. People are changing lanes like crazy, nearly taking out other drivers as they try, in vain, to merge right across three lanes of traffic to get to the interstate on-ramp that they thought they had to make a left turn onto. Why, you may ask, am I on this road? I have to get to Sus’ sister’s house to pick up Sus’ niece.
You see, we took her trick-or-treating for her first trick-or-treating ever. She’s three, and absolutely talkative. She talks about real things, about nonsensical things, about silly things and fun things. She fell asleep on the car ride back to my house, and then continued to sleep even after we tried to wake her by first blowing a raspberry on her stomach, then letting the dog lick her, then by forcibly shaking her. To all this, she simply snores, yawns, rolls over, and continues sleeping.
We finally got her up and out. She was groggy at first, but she started warming up as we went. I think the compliments from all of the homeowners helped. We even got her saying “trick-or-treat” and “thank you” at every door.
One of the first houses we visited had a battery-operated halloween decoration. It consisted of a skull inside a lantern, and the skull cackled and screamed. Well, Ana wasn’t quite sure of this. She didn’t like it, even thought it was scary. She didn’t scream, or run away, but she sidled closer to Sus. We told her it wasn’t real, that it was just a toy. After that she said “Yeah, it’s just a toy. It’s not scary, it’s just a toy.” She said that to a lot of stuff tonight.
So we took the kidlet out, got her a bunch of candy, and now we give her back to her mommy. She said goodbye to me as Sus prepared to drive her home, and told me that she wants to come back next year, then Sus and I have to go home with her and play dress-up. We’ll see if she remembers.
Today has been something of an adventure. After spending the morning sleeping (yes, I know… lazy. But I worked from 9-5 all week and the weekend contains the days necessary to be lazy) I went out with my sister on some errands. By the way, did you happen to know that today was 50% off everything in the Goodwill thrift shop today? Thrift stores are an artist’s best friend. You can find some fascinating things in a thrift shop (old cameras, random old-style nightgowns that you could do ghost photography with, furniture, prom dresses for $10 that you don’t mind ruining for a photo shoot…).
Well, after getting home from that, my mom decides she wants to go out and pick up some stuff. I go back out with my mother on a quick run before dinner, come home, eat dinner, then go to clean up the new mess that I left in my half room/half studio…
A few hours later I get a call. My friends have just left the play they went to see tonight. They want me to meet them at Denny’s. Like a usual suspect, I go to meet them. Denny’s is our thing, our place, especially at 11pm. Always good fun.
Sus informs us she wants a boyfriend, and she is going to try the Craigslist personals. Zoe and I are dubious. Very. Dubious. First of all we’re kinda drunk on sugar and food. Second, craigslist generally sounds like a bad idea.
Well, we finish at Denny’s. Sus wants to go home and watch “[500] Days of Summer” and look through the craigslist personals. Zoe doesn’t want to, but she comes with us anyway because we told her we were sad kitties, abandoned by her in a box by the side of the road… in the rain. :(
We mostly laughed at the personals, cause some of them are pretty funny… and weird, too. There were a few good ones, though. So after Zoe went home, Sus sat down to weed out the not so stellar ones, and she found a few decent options (4). She starts to write emails to them. A couple of the emails were kind of copy/paste. She wrote out entirely new emails to the other two. One of the guys said to put color in the subject line to prove that you’re real. He didn’t specify what kind of color, if it was just a color in general, your favorite color or the color of your eyes. Thus: Eye color - blue, favorite color - well, blue.
*Sigh* I guess we’ll see how it goes for her. I wish her luck. She really is adorable.
